Vittore Toffol (1860-1949) dirige dal 1888 l’antico ospizio, trasformato in locanda-albergo, ristrutturandolo ed aumentandone la capienza. Nel 1894 acquista una parte di terreno priorale a lato della antica strada che conduce a Passo Rolle e vi edifica l’Hotel Toffol, chiamato anche Toffol Alpenhotel, che gestisce e rende famoso nel contesto turistico delle Dolomiti, con il contributo fondamentale della moglie, Silvia de Zorzi, con cui darà vita ad uno dei due rami della famiglia presenti ancora oggi in paese. Inizia con lui la vocazione turistica della casata, che arriverà a contare in valle, in varie epoche, la proprietà di 9 alberghi. Vittore amplia l’albergo una prima volta nel 1902, lo dota di una prima dependance, chiamata villa Vittoria, nel 1910, e l’ingrandisce ulteriormente nel 1912, chiamandolo Grand Hotel des Alpes. L’albergo, distrutto durante la prima guerra mondiale, sarà ricostruito, aumentato di un’altra dependance, la villa Regina, nell’immediato dopoguerra. Negli anni della seconda guerra mondiale l’albergo sarà sede di riposo della divisione Hermann Göring che teneva il fronte di Cassino. Dopo il conflitto l’hotel viene gestito da uno dei figli di Vittore, Leonardo e, successivamente, dal di lui erede Teo. Negli anni ’70 l’immobile viene ceduto e trasformato quasi interamente in condominio, mantenendo però la fisionomia originaria; interventi recenti ne hanno purtroppo snaturato completamente la tipologia costruttiva su alcuni prospetti.

Vittore Toffol leitete ab 1888 die zum Gasthaus umfunktionierte Klosterherberge und baute sie aus. 1894 kaufte er ein Grundstück des Priorats entlang der zum Rolle-Pass führenden Straße, wo er das Hotel Toffol – auch Toffol Alpenhotel genannt - errichtete. Das Hotel, das innerhalb des touristischen Bereichs der Dolomiten sehr berühmt wurde, leitete Toffol mit der unverzichtbaren Unterstützung seiner Frau Silvia de Zorzi. Aus ihrer Ehe stammt einer der beiden Zweige der Familie, die heute noch im Dorf wohnen. Mit Vittore fing die touristische Tradition der Familie Toffol an, die im Laufe der Jahre in den Besitz von insgesamt 9 Hotels kam. 1902 vergrößerte er das Hotel ein erstes Mal, 1910 errichtete er die erste Dependance, die Villa Vittoria, und zwei Jahre später baute er das Hauptgebäude mit dem Name Grand Hotel Des Alpes weiter aus. Nach der Zerstörung im ersten Weltkrieg wurde das Hotel wieder aufgebaut und daneben eine weitere Dependance, die Villa Regina, errichtet. Während des zweiten Weltkriegs diente das Hotel als Erholungsort für die Soldaten der Division Hermann Göring, die an der Front von Cassino stationierten. Der Hotelbetrieb wurde nach dem Krieg von Vittores Sohn Leonardo und noch später von dessen Nachfolger Teo weitergeführt. In den siebziger Jahren wurde der Besitz aufgegeben und zum größten Teil in ein Apartmenthaus umgewandelt. Die ursprüngliche Struktur wurde vor kurzem leider völlig verunstaltet.

Since 1888 Vittore Toffol (1860 – 1949) manages the old hospice, turning it in a “lodging-house – hotel” and, at the same time rebuilding it and enlarging it.

In 1894 he buys a part of the prior’s ground, next to the old road leading to Passo Rolle, where he builds the Hotel Toffol called also Toffol Alpenhotel. He runs and makes it famous in the touristic Dolomites’ context, with the aid of his wife, Silvia de Zorzi, with whom he will originate one of the two branches of the family still present today, which at one point will own nine hotels.

Vittore enlarges his hotel a first time in 1902 and he builds also the first hotel-annex, called Villa Vittoria in 1910. A new enlargement takes place in 1912 and the hotel is now named Grand Hotel Des Alpes.

The hotel, destroyed during World War I, will be rebuilt with another hotel-annex, Villa Regina, in the years right after the war. During World War II the hotel will host, during their rest tours, troops from the Hermann Goring’s division, rotating from the fighting on Monte Cassino front line.

Afterwards the hotel is managed by Vittore’s son, Leonardo and then by his heir Teo. In the 70s the building is sold and turned almost entirely into a block of flats, preserving, however, the original look; unfortunately recent work has destroyed completely the structural typology of some front walls.
